Scarlett Dougan is a victim of Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome, an extremely rare condition that has left her with an under developed right side of the heart.

This means blood flow to her lungs is deficient at all times.
Only Half a Heart, Yet the Will to Live, 4 Month Old Baby Defies Odds

Most babies who are born with this condition do not survive and die within days of birth.

Strangely, she was diagnosed with this condition only when she was about 4 months old and has undergone two major surgeries since then. Experts are perplexed how this condition went unnoticed during the scan at 22 weeks.

Baby Scarlett has undergone two major heart operations and experts have put in their best to reroute major arteries directly to her lungs to boost the flow of oxygen.

Doctors feel this is certainly a miracle that the baby survived the first four months and feel that the surgeries should hold her in good stead till her teens, after which she may need a heart transplant.
