One More Sudden Infant Death in Dharmapuri
The number of sudden infant deaths in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the Dharmapuri government medical college hospital in Tamil Nadu has risen to 12 in space of 10 days after one more infant death was reported on Saturday.
The latest death was of a boy born at a primary health centre in Kottapatty near Harur. Doctors at the Harur government hospital were unable to save the mother, who died due to heavy bleeding following the delivery, and sent the boy to the NICU at Dharmapuri government medical college hospital where he suffered a sudden brain hemorrhage and died on Saturday evening.

The hospital authorities revealed that the boy’s condition was worsened due to malnutrition and low birth weight. The latest death takes the number of infants who have died at the hospital to 12 since November 14 when the first infant death was reported.
