Oil extracted from wild almond tree can be used to fight diabetes and obesity, a new study by researchers at Missouri University of Science and Technology reveals.

The researchers said that adding the oil, known as sterculic oil, to the diet can help increase insulin sensitivity by reducing the levels of certain micro-organisms in the body.

The researchers added that sterculic oil can also be used to control weight gain by improving the body's glucose tolerance though it was not found to produce any substantial weight loss in laboratory mice.
