The National Rural Health Mission [NRHM] has been launched with the objective of providing accessible, affordable, accountable, effective and reliable primary health care facility especially, to the poor and vulnerable section of the population. It further aims to provide overarching umbrella to the existing programmes of Health & FW including RCH II across the country including Orissa State.
The National programmes include Malaria, Blindness, Iodine deficiency, Filaria, Kala Azar, Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Integrated Disease Surveillance. The preventive and curative health care is provided through a three-tier network of Sub Centres, Primary Health Centres and Community Health Centres.Orissa is one of the High Focus States under NRHM so as more resources could be allocated for the health programmes. During the Financial Year 2007-08 an amount of Rs. 10373 Lakhs has been released under RCH Flexi pool and Rs. 9028 Lakhs has been released under Mission Flexi pool upto December 2007 out of which the State has utilized an amount of Rs. 6286.27 lakhs and Rs. 1087.435 lakhs (including the spill over from the previous year)respectively. The implementation of NRHM in the State is reviewed from time to time.
