Now, Women can Go for 10 Babies and Cut Down Cancer Risk
Women who become mothers for 10 times and more have less chance of getting cancer, says a study from Finland.
Researchers said among women who delivered 10 or more babies, the rate of new cancer cases was 24 per cent lower compared to other women. In women with 10 or more deliveries, the rate of new cancer cases for breast cancer, ovarian and endometrial cancer was about 50 per cent lower.

In the study, women with 10 or more babies were about five years younger during their first delivery, compared to average Finnish women, said study researcher Dr Juha Tapanainen of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Helsinki University Central Hospital.

Women who have had delivery before 20 years have only 50 per cent chance of getting breast cancer compared to those who give birth for the first time after 30, as per the National Institutes of Health. According to Tapanainen, some researchers say that pregnancy speeds up the process of breast cell maturation and mature cells are more resistant to cancer.

The researchers are not sure whether the results would apply to women with just one, two or three children, but plan to carry out another study for this, said study researcher Dr. Tapanainen.

Researchers examined cancer risk in nearly 5,000 Finish women who gave birth at least 10 times before 2010.
