Laser surgery remains the only option currently available if you want to ditch the glasses, though they are still required for reading in dim light, but researchers have come up with a new technique that can finally free you from having to wear glasses for ever.
The technique makes use of a tiny implant, called the 'raindrop', which is fitted under the cornea in order to resolve vision problems that arise due to aging.
AdvertisementThe surgery takes just 10 minutes to complete and anesthetic droplets are inserted into the patient's eye, which means that they are conscious during the operation.
Dr Mark Wevill, who is an opthalmic surgeon at Space Healthcare in Royal Leamington Spa and has performed the surgery on some patients, revealed that while it does not prevent your eyes from aging, it does correct your near medium vision. "Raindrop cannot stop eyes from ageing. But it can help check deterioration in eyesight caused by the ageing", he said.
