The app, currently available for iPhone, works by monitoring your sleep patterns and playing carefully constructed sounds in order to ensure that you have pleasant dreams. University of Hertfordshire psychologist Professor Richard Wiseman conducted a dream control study by collecting millions of dream reports from volunteers who had downloaded the app over a period of two years.

The researchers found that while the app, called Dream:ON, does shape your dreams, ensuring that you sleep peacefully and wake up happy and refreshed, having a full moon triggered bizarre dreams among the participants.

"Having positive dreams helps people wake-up in a good mood, and boosts their productivity. We have now discovered a way of giving people sweet dreams, and this may also form the basis for a new type of therapy to help those suffering from certain psychological problems, such as depression", Prof Wiseman said.
