New Blood Test to Detect Depression in Teens
Researchers from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine have developed a new blood test that could diagnose major depression in teens and young adults.
The researchers, led by Dr Eva Redei, identified 26 blood indicators that were common among patients with depression.

These were then tested in a group of 28 teenagers, half of whom were diagnosed with major depression and found that 11 of the indicators could be linked to depression while 18 could be linked to both anxiety and depression.

“The uniqueness of this study is that we showed that it can be done. The technology is available to make this diagnosis”, Redei said though she was quick to point out that large scale studies are needed before the test could be deemed as accurate.
