New Blood Glucose Test Uses Tear Sample
Engineers at Arizona State University and Mayo Clinic have devised a new sensor for testing the blood glucose. Lacrimation is the basis of this new sensor. The sensor measures the amount of glucose in the tear sample.
This method is simple than pricking one's finger repeatedly as all it takes to collect a tear sample is a painless dab in the corner of the eye. The glucose in the tear sample correlates closely with the amount of blood glucose.

There are several challenges for this device, like obtaining reproducible results. The project is backed by the Mayo Clinic and BioAccel.
