Music Lessons During Childhood may Speed Up Brain Development in Kids
A new study published in the Journal of Neuroscience reveals that giving music lessons to young children before they turn seven may help speed up their brain development.
According to the study, conducted by researchers at Concordia University and McGill University, the younger that the children are when they start taking music lessons, the stronger are the connections between the motor regions of the brain.

“Learning to play an instrument requires coordination between hands and with visual or auditory stimuli. Practicing an instrument before age seven likely boosts the normal maturation of connections between motor and sensory regions of the brain, creating a framework upon which ongoing training can build”, lead researcher Virginia Penhune said.
