Mum’s Death is Reason Behind Jolie’s Dramatic Weightloss

Angelina Jolie insists that vanity is not the reason behind her dramatic weight loss over the past few months, and that her grief over her mother’s death is the real reason.

Jolie told reporters at the New York premiere of her new movie ‘A Mighty Heart’ that the reason she’s lost weight is because she’s not only still grieving over the loss of her mother Marcheline Bertrand, who died of ovarian cancer in January, but also busy running around four young kids.

The actress has four kids all under the age of 6 with beau Brad Pitt – Maddox, 5, Pax, 3, Zahara, 2, and Shiloh, 1.

"I've always been lean and this year I lost my mom and I've gone through a lot. I have four kids and I finished breastfeeding - it's been hard to get my nutrition back on track," Us Weekly quoted her, as saying.

The actress has had fans worried sick about her thinning frame, especially after veins have also popped up on her arms, hands and wrists, but she insists that she’s not intentionally trying to be thin.

"Instead of people saying I look like a person dealing with something emotionally, they assume it's because I want to fit into skinny jeans. Someone saying to me that I'm thin is not a compliment," she added.

According to health and fitness experts, prominent veins such as the ones Angelina is being increasingly seen with are usually a sign of physical over-exertion.

"Such increased vascularity is often the result of over-exercising, particularly weight-bearing or resistance work," the Daily Mail quoted Mark Munroe, a trainer based in Kensington, as saying.

"If Angelina is pushing herself too hard - and not consuming enough calories - then the body has to work harder to pump nutrients around which shows up in the form of bulging veins," he added.
