Mumbai-Based Hospital Returns Charred Samples of Bones to Police After Three Years

Samples of bones, teeth and hair have been handed over to the Khar police by the JJ hospital officials after receiving the samples before three years."The bones were charred badly. The samples were small pieces of rib and other bones, including small parts of skull bone and teeth pieces. It was difficult to establish the gender and the age of the person through the samples. Therefore, our report was inconclusive," said Dr TP Lahane, Dean of JJ hospital.

Lahane said that they had received the samples from the Pen police on May 25, 2012. The hospital authorities had written to the Pen police in December 2012 about the same and requested them to take it away.

"We had written a letter to the Pen police station, but there was response. We then preserved the samples, which were handed over to the Khar police after they requested for the same."

While forensic experts say DNA analysis can play a crucial role in the investigation, it will be a task to get DNA from the charred bones.
