Most Sociable People in World are Kiwis
New Zealanders are among the most sociable people in the world, says a new report.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) claimed that New Zealand scored strongest in areas of social network support, with nearly 97 per cent saying they have relatives or friends they can count on for help in times of need.

Only Israel and Ireland did better. Australia rated at 95 per cent and bottom went to India at 58 per cent, Stuff.co.nz reported.

"People in New Zealand and Portugal are among the most social of all nationalities surveyed, with more than 75 per cent reporting at least one social contact with friends or family per week, while people in Poland, France and Hungary report the lowest levels of social interaction," the OECD report stated.

In its just published "How's Life?" study, the OECD claimed New Zealanders are also among the happiest people and have high levels of satisfaction.

It has used data from 2010 Gallup world polls to calculate the happiness and well being of people in 40 different countries, and investigated which factors have the strongest influence on people's happiness.

On a scale of 0 to 10 in the overall "life satisfaction", New Zealand came in at 7.2 - 14th best.
