New figures released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that the number of deaths due to Hepatitis C infection was greater than HIV/AIDS in the United States in 2007.
According to the report, published in the Annals of Medicine, more than 15,000 people died due to Hepatitis C infection in 2007 compared to just over 12,700 deaths due to HIV/AIDS.

In total, more than 21.8 million death certificates were issued between 1999 and 2007 with Hepatitis C related deaths accounting for 0.18 deaths per 100,000 persons per year while HIV related deaths accounted for 0.21 deaths per 100,000 people per year.
