Family life is being devastated by the financial squeeze and job insecurity, says a new survey conducted in the UK. More than half of parents believe their home is in 'crisis' while three out of four feel that stress is undermining their family's happiness.
The study of more than 2,000 parents of children under 18 showed a grim picture of the state of the nation's households, and many of the problems are put down to the lack of money.
By far the biggest reason given for problems at home is financial pressure (67 per cent) with the damage caused by the credit crunch and recession clearly taking a heavy toll on the family.
Long working hours were cited by 37 per cent of those questioned as being a cause of trouble at home, while one in four were under stress from the fear of losing their job.
Further almost one third of parents blamed children 'asking for unaffordable things'.
The survey was commissioned by the Family and Parenting Institute, which launched its Parents' Week campaign earlier this week aimed at highlighting the pressures families are facing.
