The death and new cases recorded on August 21 were from the capital, which has been witnessing a rise in the spread of the virus in the last two weeks.

The latest development has put the toll up to 486 since the first reported case in July 2012.

MERS, also known as corona virus, causes symptoms similar to cold in individuals it infects.
