Men's Beauty Pageant Ready to Begin in Taiwan

by Savitha C Muppala on Dec 18 2009 11:52 PM

The men's beauty pageant in Taiwan is all set to begin over the weekend which will have men from 30 countries vying for the title of Mister International.

Hopefuls will take to the catwalk in Taichung, in the island's middle, and be judged on swimwear, evening wear and an interview, the organisers said.

"Just like the beauty contests for women, the contestants also will have to be judged by their posture and appearance, and the way they talk," said this year's hostess, Christine Huang.

"But what will be different is that the event is for men. A tall and handsome man will be elected."

The purpose of the event is "to help children hit by AIDS", she said, adding that the contestants have visited orphanages and houses for the elderly since their arrival earlier this month.

Last year's winner, Ngo Tien Doan of Vietnam, will crown his successor in a ceremony on Saturday to be attended by around 500 people, Huang said.

The winner of the event -- the fourth since the first inaugural contest in Singapore in 2006 -- will be rewarded with 5,000 US dollars and various business contracts from sponsors worth up to 45,000 US dollars, she said.
