Medtronic Announces the European Launch of SureScan
American medical technology company Medtronic announced the European launch of SureScan, the first implantable neurostimulation system used in treating chronic back and leg pain compatible with full body MRI scans.
The company revealed that the first system implants were carried out in Germany, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland and Sweden, adding that SureScan has recently received the Conformite Europeenne (CE) Mark approval for MRI compatibility which will allow patients who use the therapy to benefit from full body MRI scans.

Stating that SureScan’s full-body MRI scan compatibility is a major advancement, Dr JP Van Buyten, who conducted the implant in Belgium, said, “Neurostimulation therapy has become a mainstay of chronic pain management, and the introduction of full-body, MRI-compatible spinal cord stimulation systems is an important advancement that will help ensure neurostimulation patients have access to the diagnostic tools needed to quickly identify potentially critical health conditions.”
