Mcdonald’s to Alter Its Menu to Help People Make Healthier Food Choices in Australia
New South Wales food labeling laws demand fast food outlets show the kilojoules in each product next to the price and in the same size writing.
Many health groups across Australia called for McDonald's to be brought into line with the rules. Therefore, the company has announced that it will change its menus across the country by September.

"In consultation with the NSW Food Authority we have proactively made some edits to our new digital menu boards to enable additional comparison between products. We are fully supportive of kilojoule labeling as a way to provide our customers with information to help them make informed choices," said Chris Grant, McDonald's spokesman.

Obesity Policy Coalition executive manager, Jane Martin said, “It was a good outcome and changing the menus would help people make healthier food choices. It sounds like it will be happening nationwide and that's really good news, because in Victoria we don't have any regulation.”

"I think this really highlights the importance of having some regulation that sets the standards to ensure that this kind of information is presented in a way that people can actually see it," she added.

"The NSW Food Authority employs an escalated enforcement policy where in the first instance, where there is no public health or safety risk, it works with business to drive compliance," she said. Fast food labeling laws were floated in Victoria in 2010.
