Married Men Make More Money Than Single Men

Married men earn seven per cent more than their single counterparts, a new study has found.

The survey of 12,000 German men, undertaken by the University of Bielefeld, took into account differences in age, education and experience while conducting the study.

The academics suggested that once men were married they took a greater interest in their finances and were more likely to make an effort to improve their lot, the Daily Mail reports.

"Results indicate that a lower level of pay satisfaction induces married men to put more effort into their work, which leads to higher wages," said academics at the University of Bielefeld in Germany.

According to the Daily Telegraph, in order to reach the conclusion, boffins analysed data from 12,245 interviewees on a wide range of subjects including household composition, employment status, working hours, income and time spent on household tasks.

Researchers said: "Lifestyle changes related to marriage may give rise to the purchase of a home and its furnishings, entailing increased household expenditures, and so on."
