Margarine may Blunt IQ Scores in Kids

by Rajashri on Sep 30 2009 8:37 PM

Researchers from New Zealand's Auckland University have revealed that children who eat margarine may have lower IQs compared to their peers who do not consume it.

"We found a number of dietary factors to be significantly associated with intelligence measures. The association between margarine consumption and IQ scores was the most consistent and novel finding," the authors said.

Kids who ate margarine scored three points less at the age of three and half years, the report revealed. This difference remained constant even when parental wealth and education was taken into consideration.

the details of the study appear in the journal Intelligence.
