 Manufacturers of  Ribena and Lucozade Plan to Reduce Sugar Content to Fight Obesity
Soft drinks manufacturers have planned to reduce the levels of sugar in some products to support the government’s initiative to reduce obesity.
The levels of sugar in Ribena ready-to-drink and Lucozade Energy will be reduced by up to 10%”.

The J20 brand has also planned the launch of two flavors in a new slimline can which will represent a 10% calorie reduction as compared to its standard 275ml bottle.

AG Barr also plans to effect a 5% calorie reduction in its range of drinks but Irn-Bru will remain untouched by alterations.

Health Minister Anna Soubry said, “Being overweight and not eating well is bad for our health. We have challenged the nation to reduce our calorie intake by five billion a day. On average that’s just 100 calories less a day per person.”

British Soft Drinks Association Director General, Gavin Partington said: "We welcome the commitments made by leading soft drinks producers. Our industry has been taking steps to reduce the calorie content of our drinks for many years now and currently more than 60% of all soft drinks contain no added sugar."
