Majority of Twitter's 500 Million Users Made Up by Americans, Brazilians and Japanese

A new report has revealed that over 500 million people have joined the micro-blogging website Twitter, and a majority of those users, are Americans and Brazilians.
Twitter surpassed the half-billion mark at the end of June, with the U.S. accounting both for the most users and the largest number of 'tweets'.

The study carried out by Paris-based social media monitor Semiocast revealed that the U.S. accounted for over 141 million of Twitter users.

According to the study, Brazil was ranked second with 41 million users, The Herald Sun eports.

The study, carried out the study by analysing data such as time zone, geo-location and language available for the social networking site's total 517 million accounts, showed that Japan came in third with 35 million users.

According to the paper, the study found Jakarta to be the most active Twitter zone, with 2.4 per cent of all tweets originating in Indonesian capital Jakarta.
