More than 85 percent Britons admit to mindless snacking even as the Department of Health struggles to keep the growing obesity problem in check.

A new research carried out by Jenny Craig weight management program revealed that more than half of those admitting to mindless snacking said that the main cause was boredom while treating themselves to food and depression were also major causes for “unconscious eating”.

Though many of the volunteer revealed that they were looking to lose some weight, more than 60 percent admitted that they were eating too much while more than 30 percent said that they do not watch what they eat.

“From our experience, unconscious eating is one of the most common challenges our personal weight management coaches have to teach our clients to deal with", Karen Barber, nutritionist for the program said.
