Maintaining Weight With Self-monitoring, Counseling and Gym Access
A recent study found that a weight maintenance program which included access to the gym, counseling and self-monitoring went a long way in helping Black women maintain their weight.
As compared to overweight White women, Black women at the same weight carried a reduce risk of weight-related health problems. Further, black women were happier with their bodies and did not stress themselves much about losing weight.

Gary Bennett, head of the Duke Obesity Prevention Program in Durham, North Carolina, said that black women who gained weight every year, should ideally focus on weight maintenance.

The study showed the benefits of a program that ran through the year which included counseling calls every month, self-monitoring through an automated calling system, and diet changes which helped Black women maintain weight.
