Lily Allen Blames Parents for Her Love 'Blues'

by VR Sreeraman on Jan 18 2009 11:05 AM

Popstar Lily Allen has blamed her parents for the current status of her love life.

The 'Not Big' hitmaker, who has experienced her share of failed relationships, says the lack of attention from her parents in her early years, has inculcated a feeling of desperation in her to please her potential suitors.

"We were quite naughty kids. (My brother) Alfie was really bad, I just went into myself. I was a polite sort of cowering child. I didn't talk much, I spoke to adults but not to anyone my own age," Contactmusic quoted Lily, as saying.

"In the beginning I was so insecure and felt like I couldn't make friends. I totally felt 'everyone hates me and I need to prove myself', and I thought 'if I'm a famous singer, everyone's gonna love me and my life's gonna be OK'. I didn't realize I would be opening myself up to more criticism," Lily added.

Her parents Keith Allen and Alison Owen split when she was 4 and, thus her mother had to work most of the time for a living, which is why the kids felt abandoned.

"My mum had to work to support us and we lacked the attention we needed as children, which I think is one of the fundamental problems in our society.

"I'm not saying women shouldn't go and work for a living - that's not the answer - but something has to adjust because children are being neglected on an emotional level and it's having an effect on the world," Lily said.
