Stage and screen actress Krysta Rodriguez has revealed that she is suffering from breast cancer. She is best known for her role as Ana in Smash.
After being diagnosed in September, Rodriguez, 30, decided to speak out on her new blog, ChemoCouture, on Thursday.
"Now as far as cancer goes I have the Cadillac of tumors. It's slow growing, highly treatable and not really interested in spreading. My doctor calls it an 'old lady cancer.' I always knew I was ahead of my time," Rodriguez writes.
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women. Breast cancer, as the name suggests, is a cancer that affects the breasts or mammary glands.
Early detection and life style changes help in controlling breast cancer. It is the second most popular cancer after lung cancer and is the fifth most common cause of cancer deaths world wide.
According to estimates, in the 2004 alone breast cancer caused 519,000 deaths worldwide.
Breast cancer risk increases with age; the older the woman, the more aggressive the evaluation techniques employed. Nevertheless, younger women with breast lumps are at a far greater risk for breast cancer in comparison to asymptomatic women of the same age group, and to older women.
Breast cancer mostly occurs in women over the age of 50, and the risk is especially high for women over age 60.
