Kids Need to Learn Importance of Good Night's Sleep

by Rajshri on Oct 23 2009 9:35 PM

Sleep expert Dr Chris Idzikowski from the Edinburgh Sleep Centre has joined his colleagues in calling for educating kids about the importance of a good night's sleep.

Experts have said that teaching about good sleep must be made a part of the curriculum although no such guidelines exist currently. "We teach children about nutrition and ensure regular exercise is part of their weekly activities but the third critical ingredient of a healthy lifestyle - sleep - is barely touched upon," said Dr Chris Idzikowski.

The idea has received support after a survey found that 62% of people believe sleep should be part of the National Curriculum. Additionally 83% said good sleep every night is the most important thing for a child, who goes to school.
