The Executive Board (EB) of the World Health Organization (WHO) will meet on Monday to discuss recent public health successes and set out some of the threats to global health.

“The EB opens its twice-yearly session on Monday. In her report to the EB, the Director-General, Dr Margaret Chan, will highlight recent public health successes and set out some of the threats to global health,” said a WHO release.

The 34-member board will discuss a range of issues including climate change and health, pandemic influenza preparedness, the eradication of polio, strategies to reduce the harmful use of alcohol, the global immunization strategy and female genital mutilation.

The main functions of the Executive Board are to give effect to the decisions and policies of the World Health Assembly, to advise it and generally facilitate its work, as well as to prepare the agenda of the next Assembly.
