An Indian State Government Offers Jobs in Health Dept for Leprosy-Cured Persons
Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader said the state government would consider appointing persons cured of leprosy to vacant posts in the health department.
He was speaking at the 125-year anniversary of the St. Joseph Leprosy Hospital of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions here on Saturday. Khader said that the government has appointed 110 persons from different parts of the state, including two from Mangaluru.

The minister said that the government was committed in supporting people who undergone a long treatments and got themselves cured of leprosy. The department had reserved posts for such persons. “We have already started appointing and will appoint more persons,” he said.

He also announced that the State Leprosy Hospital in Bengaluru, which had stopped working for a few years, would start functioning soon.

St. Joseph Leprosy Hospital - the first leprosy hospital in south India - was started by Augustus Muller in 1890 at a time when Leprosy was considered as dreadful disease.
