Johnson & Johnson to Share Clinical Trial Data Via Yale’s Open Access System

American company Johnson & Johnson has joined hands with Yale University in a partnership that will see clinical research data being made available through the university’s Yale School of Medicine's Open Data Access (YODA) for independent researchers.

The deal will include J&J’s clinical trial data for its treatments along with clinical study reports (CSRs) and de-identified patient-level data. The company has also launched a new website through which researchers can request for data.

Clinical trials are experiments that yield useful information to clinicians if a particular treatment is of any value to a patient.

The announcement comes following calls for greater transparency in the pharmaceutical industry and the campaign is being led by AllTrials group which is supported by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Richard Lehman, an advisor to the YODA project, said that the announcement will act as a ‘game changer’ to the pharmaceutical industry. “The project will be wide open and will provide help to companies who want to follow in J&J's footsteps. It will leave organizations who are still discussing whether data sharing is even a good thing looking very out of date”, he said.
