Injecting Blood into Scalp is New Baldness “Cure?”

A new study published in the British Journal of Dermatology suggests that injecting the scalp with a person’s blood can be a cure for baldness. Researchers already use such ‘vampire treatment’, involving injections of platelet-rich plasma, to reverse the effects of aging on face and hands. Now a volunteer study has shown that the treatment is also effective in curing baldness by showing that it leads to spurts of hair growth in areas which have become bald.

The researchers suggested that one of the reasons why the treatment works could be because it stimulates the stem cells below the skin which in turn leads to hair growth.

“We think it can help to regrow hair on people with androgenic alopecia (male-pattern baldness). We believe it is the best treatment available, apart from surgery”, study author Dr Fabio Rinaldi said.
