People with spinal cord injuries can now get more information after their injury through a new website launched by the Indian Spinal Injuries Center.
Indian Spinal Injuries Center Launches New Website for Spinal Cord Injury Patients

"ElearnSCI.org provides information on spinal cord injury management and addresses lack of development opportunities for medical and paramedical professionals management due to the limited access of training and learning materials and resources on spinal cord injuries," H.P.S. Ahluwalia, chairman of Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) here, said.

"Spinal injuries in India are mostly due to road accidents and falling from a height," said A.K. Mukherjee, ISIC director general.

"If we can create awareness on ways to prevent such accidents, the number of spinal injury cases will decrease."

Around 20,000 people suffer from spinal cord injury in India and most of them are paralysed from the lower half of their bodies, says ISIC.

The centre has also organised a two-day International Spine and Spinal Injuries Conference (ISSICON) on new techniques on spine fixation, back spine deformity and spine trauma with experts from across the world.

The event began Saturday.
