The story of Kane Gorny, 22, is yet another reminder of the disastrous consequences of negligent medical care.
Hospital's Indifference Led to Death of 22-year-old Footballer

Kane played football with passion until he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2009. He was on life saving steroids which also caused his bones to become weak. He needed a routine hip-replacement and during one such surgery, life just turned topsy turvy for Kane.

During the investigation into his death, Kane's mother recalled how her son had made a frenzied call to her a day after the May 2009 operation. Mrs Cronin said: "He sounded really, really distressed. He said, 'They won't give me anything to drink. I've called the police, you'd better get here."

His mother explained that when the police arrived on the scene , they were turned away by doctors. She said that the boy suffered dehydration after doctors did not give him the important hormone medication to control his fluid levels. The boy died the next day.

Mrs Cronin said that even though she explained to staff that he needed hormone medication urgently, the request was ignored and instead Kane was sedated. The next day Mrs Cronin found her son looking confused and delirious and he died an hour later.

The boy had died from dehydration.
