HIV Positive Boy Disbarred from School in Allahabad

by Rajashri on Aug 25 2009 11:25 PM

It is a matter of grave concern in the district after a HIV positive boy and his sister were disbarred from the Belmunda primary school in Allahabad's Jasra block.

"I asked them not to come to school," said principal Raghvendra Nath Tripathi. "The villagers had threatened to withdraw their children if the boy was allowed to continue."

The admission of the boy's sister was also canceled.  District Magistrate Rajeev Agrawal ruled that the kids be readmitted, but the villagers refused to allow the boy to attend the school.  Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Brijesh Mishra has held a meeting with the villagers, but they still refuse to see reason.

"We would conduct a test on the boy and the girl on Tuesday in order to ascertain whether they are really affected with HIV or it is a rumour.” Mishra said. It emerged that the boy and the girl live with their uncle after both their parents died of HIV.
