High Premiums in Health Insurance, No Benefits, Burden Foreign Workers in Kuwait
Rising health insurance premiums are badly hitting foreign workers in Kuwait, reports Al-Shahed.
Added to this, the cost of living, rising rents, tuition fees in private schools and air ticket prices are making their lives difficult.

Health insurance is one of the basic amenities for the well-being of citizens. It should ideally be affordable and guarantee proper treatment, as it is a basic service that generates additional income for the country.

However, foreign workers with limited incomes are forced to pay high premiums for themselves and their families staying in Kuwait. They are not benefited by it, as they don't have free treatment.

Foreign workers who have health insurance, still have to pay hospitalization fees, which varies according to the health condition of the patients. They can buy essential medicines only in private pharmacies at exorbitant prices, sources added.

The Kuwaiti government recently announced its plan to build private hospitals and clinics for those paying health insurance. This brought a ray of hope to workers who believe it is a step towards guaranteeing their right to receive proper treatment.
