High Carb Diet Linked to Higher Risk of Colon Cancer Recurrence
A new study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute suggests that the risk of colon cancer recurrence may be higher among those who consume high carbohydrate diet.
The study was conducted by researchers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston who observed the dietary habits of more than 1,000 stage 3 colon cancer patients over a period of six months and found a link between increased risk of cancer recurrences or death among the patients and higher dietary glycemic load and total carbohydrate intake.

“Given that patients who consume high glycemic loads or carbohydrates after cancer diagnosis may have consumed a similar diet before diagnosis, we cannot exclude the possibility that individuals with these dietary exposures acquire tumors that are biologically more aggressive”, lead researcher Dr Jeffrey Meyerhardt said.
