Budhia's Medical Report Fails to Address Long Term Health Issues
The panel of doctors examining Budhia Singh has suggested that he goes ‘slow’ and should not be allowed to run - at least for sometime.

A warrant-cum-authorization letter from the Khurda district welfare committee helped Police on Wednesday to take the boy to hospital.

The medical panel headed by the chief medical officer of Capital Hospital, Sugat Kar, found the boy’s serum urea, potassium and ALKP (alkaline phosphatase) levels to be on the higher side .

His Blood pressure was higher than normal on Friday when tested at 135/ 85 mm Hg.

“Signs of under-nourishment, vitamin deficiency and pallor have been noted. The boy should not run, as reflected by the abnormal parameters of health,” said one doctor, who wishes to be anonymous.

“Runners are expected to have high hemoglobin level. Budhia’s levels are lower,” said the doctor.

Budhia will undergo MRI and karyotyping tests at Cuttack tomorrow.

The long term implication on the child’s joints, ligaments and long bones and to some extent his spine is what needs to be taken into consideration besides some of the other parameters. Anyone with sports medicine background with an interest in child development and growth should be consulted. In India currently there are not many such specialists.

The current panel has failed to address these issues or is unaware of them. The other parameters that are worrying the panel are likely to revert to normal with some rest and proper hydration.

Medindia fails to understand why the need to do Karyo-typing – this is usually done to know if the child is a true male or female or if there is any abnormality like Down’s Syndrome etc.,. The MRI again is unlikely to show anything significant.

Budhia’s defiant coach Mr.Das has said that the whole thing has been fabricated by the doctors. He said: “I have no reason to believe the tests are accurate. The doctors have been appointed by the government to give a dubious report. I will get Budhia tested at any hospital outside the state if necessary”.

Das plans to fly to London on May 15 for the London marathon with the boy. Surrounded by this controversy will Das succeed in his plans for London and expose the boy to the International media glare!!.
