Health Ministry of Malaysia Mulling Over Laws to Ban Vaping Completely

Before vaping becomes a major issue in Malaysia, the government is planning to ban it once the legalities are worked out, said Health Minister Datuk Seri S Subramaniam.

"Once we have settled that, we will make the necessary arrangements. We will chose the most appropriate act which will give us the power to do it," he told.

Starting Nov 1, MUHC plans to implement its smoke and vape-free policy at all of its hospital sites which applies to all patients, employees and visitors.

The Health Ministry has recommended a temporary halt to shisha and electronic cigarette smoking until the findings on the risks are announced. It is also in discussions with various agencies and parties to get their views on the effects these methods of smoking have on health.

In recent years, vaping has become a trend not only in smokers but also among non-smokers in Malaysia. They tend to see vaping as a safe alternative to cigarette smoking.

An electronic cigarette (e-cig or e-cigarette), personal vaporizer (PV) or electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) are battery-powered vaporizer that simulates the feeling of smoking, but without the tobacco combustion.
