After repeated deaths of infants at Sishu Bhawan in Odisha, the state health minister, Atanu Sabysachi Naik, has assured that stringent actions would be taken against the staff, if anyone was found responsible for the deaths of patients in the pediatric hospital.
He visited the hospital for the first time after the deaths and he had set up a high level technical team to verify the causes of each death recorded in the Hospital.

Mr. Naik said, “The SNCU (Special Newborn Care Unit) bed strength would be increased to 36 from 26 and the vacant doctors and paramedics positions would be filled up soon, Rs.10 crore has already been sanctioned to improve the Hospital infrastructure.”

The hospital is currently working with only 20 doctors, while 11 posts of assistant pediatric professors and nine senior resident positions are lying vacant. The hospital also faces a severe dearth of paramedics too.
