Happiness Levels of Women Go Up After Divorce, Find Researchers
Women are significantly more content than normal for up to 5 years after divorce, say researchers.
Over the course of two decades, London's Kingston University researchers questioned 10,000 Brits in the age group of 16 - 60 about their happiness levels before and after major life milestones.

Professor Yannis Georgellis, Director of the Centre for Research in Employment, Skills and Society at Kingston Business School, said in the study that they took into account the fact that divorce can sometimes have a negative financial impact on women, but despite that they found that divorce still makes them much happier than men, the Huffington Post reported.

Georgellis said that one reason could be that women who are in unhappy marriages feel more liberated after divorce than their male counterparts.

The research has been published in the journal Economica.
