 Guwahati Organizes Tribal Food Festival
A tribal food festival organized at Guwahati saw a large number of foodies thronging to savor the sumptuous dishes specific to Assam.
The Northeast Mongolian Food Festival created a buzz among local people.

Most tribes of Assam are of Mongolian origin. Some have their origins in the Tibeto-Burman and southeast Asian regions.

Sushil Pegu, one of the organizer's of the festival, said: "In our northeast, there are a majority of tribes of Mongolian origin. The traditions, culture and food practices of our Mongolian origin tribes are disappearing day by day. We are making this effort so that they can find an exposure with other people as well," he said.

Apart from various delicacies, local rice beer was also served at most of the stalls, which is a traditional tribal delicacy of the region.

Most of the people who visited the festival were overwhelmed by the range of available cuisines.

"I feel that such festivals should happen every year and at other places as well. It is a matter of pride for us that we can come forward and promote our cultural food," said Ashok Mushahary, a visitor.
