Good Night’s Sleep Reduces Number of Sick Leaves
A new study published in the journal Sleep reveals that having a good night’s sleep can make it less likely that you will apply for a sick leave at work.
The researchers observed the sleeping habits of more than 3,700 men and women between 30 and 64 years of age in Finland and found that men who slept for 7 hours, 46 minutes and women who slept for 7 hours, 38 minutes were least likely to take a sick leave.

Finnish Institute of Occupational Health’s Tea Lallukka said that detecting insomnia symptoms early can help people avoid absence due to sickness and deterioration of health, well being and functioning.

Stating that a good night’s sleep is essential for a good overall health, Timothy Morgenthaler, president of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, said “Insufficient sleep, due to inadequate or mistimed sleep, contributes to the risk for several of today's public health epidemics. Getting at least seven hours of night sleep is a key to overall health, which translates to less sick time away from work.”
