A German pop singer has admitted to the court that she indulged in unprotected sex even though she was aware that she was infected with the HIV virus.

Nadja Benaissa of the German girl band No Angels is being accused of not warning at least four of her partners between 2000 to 2004 that she was infected with HIV virus, an accusation which could see her sentenced to 10 years in jail if proven to be true.

Benaissa revealed that her infection was discovered in 2000 during a pregnancy test but she chose not to reveal it to her partners with reports suggesting that one of the four has been is also now suffering from the infection.

Defending her actions in the court, Benaissa’s lawyer read a statement which said “It was said to me that the probability of me passing on the virus was practically zero. Therefore I also concealed the fact that I was infected to my acquaintances. I did not want my daughter to be branded by this. I told the band members because I trusted them. I never made it public because I thought that would mean the end of the band.”
