German Hospital Cures Ugandan Doctor for Ebola
After seven weeks of intensive treatment, a Ugandan doctor who contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone has been released from a German hospital, the clinic in Frankfurt said Thursday.
The employee of an Italian charity had been hospitalised on October 3 in an isolation unit of the infectious disease center at Frankfurt University Hospital and was released on November 19.

He had suffered "critical multi-organ failure" and required intensive medical therapy including organ replacement procedures, but was now reunited with his family, said the hospital.

"We are happy that we were able to help the patient in his recovery," said medical director Juergen Schoelmerich, thanking medical staff for performing "under great physical and mental stress".

The man was one of three Ebola patients to have been treated in German hospitals, one of whom died in October.

A Senegalese expert with the World Health Organization who was infected in Sierra Leone was cured in a clinic in the northern port of Hamburg, but a Sudanese UN volunteer, who had been flown in from Liberia, died in mid-October in a hospital in Leipzig.
