A new genetic test that claims to predict the timeline of a woman's biological clock might go on sale as early as next year, scientists have revealed.

Norbert Gleicher of the Center for Human Reproduction in New York revealed that the new test can predict ovarian ageing. The test might be useful because a woman is born will all the eggs that she will produce in her lifetime. The test might be useful for women who are putting of motherhood to concentrate on their careers.

Women with a Fragile X or FMR1 gene are at risk of early menopause and this test might tell them exactly how long they have before they start a family. "We can take an 18 or 20-year-old girl and check her Fragile X and make a pretty good prediction of whether she's at risk," New Scientist quoted Gleicher as saying.

The test could tell women their ovarian reserve and help them plan motherhood early or freeze their eggs for later use.
