Gene That may Make People More Prone to Diabetes Identified
Researchers at University of Wisconsin-Madison have discovered a gene that may prove to be the key in identifying why some people are more prone to suffering from diabetes compared to others.
The gene, identified as tomosyn-2, was found when the researchers were conducting tests on obese mice. Tomosyn-2 plays an important role in the regulation of insulin hormone and acts as a brake insulin secretion from the pancreas.

Stating that they are yet to find whether the gene plays a similar role in humans, lead researcher Alan Attie said, “It's too early for us to know how relevant this gene will be to human diabetes, but the concept of negative regulation is one of the most interesting things to come out of this study and that very likely applies to humans.”
