Four Vital Organs Retrieved From a 20-year-old Brain Dead Student
Four vital organs were retrieved from a 20-year-old brain dead person in Coimbatore on June 15.
Senthil Kumaran, a final year civil engineering student at Karunya University, Coimbatore, suffered a road accident on June 13 and was admitted to Ganga Hospital in a critical condition.

CT scan revealed severe brain injury. He had suffered irreversible damage to the brain stem. Doctors declared him brain dead on June 15. The family was counseled on organ donation and with their consent, the hospital co-ordinated with Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu for allocating the organs.

Vital organs like liver, kidneys and corneas were retrieved. The liver was allocated to a patient at GEM hospital, the kidneys to patients at Kovai Medical Center and Hospital and PSG Hospitals one each and the corneas to Sanakara Hospital.
