Fortis Healthcare Launches Electronic Remote Monitoring Project

Patients in small towns may take advantage of specialist doctors in major cities thanks to a new electronic remote monitoring project launched by Fortis Healthcare in collaboration with GE Healthcare.

Known as CritiNext, the program will allow doctors in major cities to access real time data of patients who require critical care and suggest possible treatments to the doctors in small towns.

The program is based on the eICU concept and will initially involve around 34 beds in two hospitals in Raipur and Dehradun before being expanded to more than 500 beds in hospitals in different towns by 2014.

The executive director of CritiNext, Dr Amit Varma said that the program will increase the number of people who require personal care. “According to estimates, 10 per cent of all hospital admissions require ICU care. We have only 70,000 well equipped ICU beds though there is a demand of four lakh for five million people per year. Less than 15 per cent receive dedicated and needed personal care”, he said.
