Food Allergy Plagues Close to 6 Million Children in U.S.

Food allergy is a well known condition and the plight of close to 8 percent of children in the U.S., a recent study has revealed. Worse, kids are victims to more than one allergy with allergic reactions being severe. Among the children with food allergies, nearly 30 % were victims of more than one allergy and 39% had severe reactions.

Peanuts, milk and shellfish were the leading allergens.

"These findings provide critical epidemiologic information to guide strategies for the prevention of food-induced reactions and for the diagnosis and management of childhood food allergies," the study revealed.
